Ruins Park

Centro Cultural Municipal Parque das Ruinas is a public park and cultural center, located in Santa Teresa neighborhood. The park got its name after the ruins of an ancient mansion, former Palacete Murtinho Nobre.

At the beginning of 20th century the palace belonged to Laurinda Santos Lobo, famous lady of Rio's high society and heir of a rich and powerful family. During the 1920s her house was a meeting point of Modernism in Rio de Janeiro, gathering the most prominent visitors at its parties.

After the death of Laurinda the palace was abandoned and partially destroyed. In 1990s the state government started the restauration and in 1997 Ruins Park was opened.
